For Beauty's Sake

FOR BEAUTY'S SAKE stars Ned Sparks, Marjorie Weaver, Ted North, Joan Davis, Pierre Watkin, Lenita Lane, Richard Lane, Lotus Long, Glenn Hunter, Lois Wilson, John Ellis, Olaf Hytten, Tully Marshall, Phyllis Cert and Isabel Jewell. It was directed by Shepard Traube. A Clarence Buddington Kelland story was the source for this film. Bookish astronomy professor B. E. Dillsome (Ted North) must operate his aunt's beauty parlor for a two year period in order to inherit a fortune. Business is very, very slow, prompting Dillsome's girlfriend Dime Pringle (Marjorie Weaver) to bring in a hot-shot press agent Jonathan B. Sweet (New Sparks) to publicize the establishment. Before long, our benighted hero finds himself mixed up in a murder plot and a blackmail scheme. The raucous comedy relief of Joan Davis and the patented deadpan asides of Ned Sparks add even more enjoyment to the film. On a personal note, the director of this movie, Shepard Traube, is the same man that I hired in 1964 to direct a film I made. The original title was Once Upon A Coffee House. The distributor changed the title to Hootenanny A Go-Go. This movie was made in 1941, runs 62 minutes, and is in black and white.
